Bangladesh has invited Brunei Darussalam to invest in energy exploration under government-to-government (G2G) and public-private partnership arrangements, expressing keen interest in building long-term energy cooperation.

Acting Foreign Minister Humaiun Kobir extended the invitation during a meeting with Brunei’s Second Minister of Finance Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda on November 3.

The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum in bilateral relations, said a foreign ministry press release this morning.

Kobir also encouraged Brunei to invest in Bangladesh’s Islamic banking sector.

On manpower cooperation, he conveyed Bangladesh’s readiness to supply more skilled, semi-skilled and professional workers to meet the needs of Brunei’s labour market.

Recognising the significant contribution of Bangladeshi expatriates to Brunei’s economy, the Bruneian minister expressed optimism about continued recruitment from Bangladesh.

Kobir also conveyed an invitation from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the Sultan of Brunei to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
