A new two-year executive committee of the Rupganj Press Club in Narayanganj has been formed after nearly 18 years.

The committee was formed through a voice vote by the general members at the journalists’ office in Purbachal on Thursday evening. Chhattar Ali Sohel, Rupganj correspondent of Mohona Television, was elected president, while Hanif Molla, correspondent of Bhorer Kagoj, was elected general secretary.

The 25-member committee includes Masud Karim of Daily Janata as senior vice-president; Mokbul Hossain of Daily Jaijaidin and My TV and Abul Kalam Shakil of NTV as vice-presidents; Mahbub Alam Priyo of Nagorik TV and Khola Kagoj and Rubel Mahmud of RTV as joint general secretaries.

Other office-bearers include Russell Mahmud of Desh TV as organising secretary, SM Abu Kawsar of Boishakhi TV as joint organising secretary, Nazmul Huda of Jago News and Daily Sangram as treasurer, and Parvez Mia of ATN News as joint treasurer.

Sharif Bhuiyan of Daily Kalbela was named office secretary, SA Saker of Daily Edin publicity and publication secretary, Enamul Haque of Global TV and Jatiya Arthaniti information and technology affairs secretary, Ripon Mia of Daily Jaijaidin sports and cultural affairs secretary, Nure Alam of Daily Janakantha law and human rights affairs secretary, and Emdadul Haque Dulal of Daily Sangbad social welfare secretary.

The committee also includes eight executive members from various print and electronic media outlets.

The newly elected leaders pledged to work collectively to protect the professional interests of journalists working in Rupganj, strengthen mutual cooperation and improve the quality of journalism in the area.
