DHAKA: Serious allegations of land grabbing through forged deeds, extortion, and death threats by an armed group have emerged in an area adjacent to Uttara South Metro Station in the capital. The allegations have raised concerns over the safety and security of the area’s legitimate landowners, who claim they are being intimidated by alleged land grabbers and their hired associates.

Abdullah Sani, on behalf of the affected landowners, has submitted written complaints to the Home Minister, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka, and the General Secretary of the central committee of Jubo Dal, seeking legal action against those allegedly involved.

According to the complaint, attempts are being made to illegally occupy legally owned and officially recorded land located west of Pillar No. 103, near Bridge No. 8 of Uttara South Metro Station.

The complaint names three individuals—Jabed Ali Bakaul, Mortuza—as allegedly attempting to seize the property by creating forged and fraudulent deeds.

The complainants further allege that Mamun Parvez Tanmoy, who reportedly identifies himself as a Jubo Dal leader, is directly assisting the alleged land-grabbing operation. According to the complaint, Tanmoy is allegedly using the name of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to exert pressure on the landowners with the help of an armed group.

The complaint claims that the landowners are being asked to pay a substantial amount of money as extortion. Those who refuse to pay are allegedly threatened with being barred from entering their own property and subjected to death threats. The complainants also allege that they have been threatened with politically motivated criminal cases by being labelled as members or supporters of the Awami League.

The complaint further states that Jabed and Mortuza are accused in a murder case filed with Turag Police Station. The case is reportedly registered as Case No. 12, dated October 10, 2024.

The affected landowners say they are living in fear and uncertainty over the security of both their property and their lives. They have urged the authorities to investigate the allegations, ensure their safety, and take appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible for land grabbing, forgery, extortion, and threats.

The allegations have yet to be independently verified. Any determination of criminal responsibility would depend on the findings of an impartial investigation and the relevant legal proceedings.
